Eliminates all false negatives before and during Y2K testing Product Surpasses Glossary Search Methods—Offers ‘Objective’ Auditing Based on Proven, 100% Accurate Technique Used at Major Banks Waltham, MA - June 29, 1998 – Data Integrity, Inc. (dii), developer of Millennium Solution™, the most powerful and accurate Year 2000 remediation software solution now in use at major banks and U.S. government agencies, has announced Millennium CrossCheck™, a unique, independent verification and validation product that comprehensively evaluates computer system code and accelerates the Year 2000 system testing process. Millennium CrossCheck eliminates all “false negatives” before and during the pre-test and test phase of Year 2000 conversion projects. Millennium CrossCheck delivers immediate benefits:
Millennium CrossCheck leverages the proven, breakthrough Y2K search capability built into Millennium Solution now being used successfully in major Year 2000 projects at NationsBank, Citibank, Credit Suisse First Boston and U.S. government agencies. This unique search technique has identified 100 percent of Y2K-sensitive code at Data Integrity customer sites. Millennium CrossCheck is highly effective in a third-party, complementary role because it delivers 100 percent search accuracy and because it is integrated easily and without disruption into ongoing project work already begun using other Y2K tools. “Both renovating and auditing code with the same tool, or with tools using similar search methods, is like a writer proofreading his or her own copy – it’s not very effective,” said Allen Burgess, CEO of Data Integrity. “Year 2000 errors are 10 times more expensive to fix after Y2K testing than before because once into test, Y2K bugs are extremely difficult and time consuming to find. Detecting errors beforehand is crucial to the timely and successful completion of Year 2000 projects. Millennium CrossCheck utilizes the most accurate search technique on the market today. It eliminates all false negatives and saves organizations an immense amount of testing difficulty and expense." In beta tests, a Data Integrity customer used Millennium CrossCheck on an application of 28,000 lines of code thought to be completely renovated using conventional windowing tools. Three false negatives were uncovered. Extrapolated over 1 million lines of code, Millennium CrossCheck will typically find more than 100 additional Y2K errors. Instead of the conventional glossary or pattern matching methods, which search for programmer-defined date variables, Millennium CrossCheck examines legacy source code for standard mathematical operations that yield errors when the calendar moves from 1999 to 2000, and beyond. This unique analytical method eliminates false negatives because every math operation and logical compare is checked. Millennium CrossCheck is both fast and easy to use. Millions of lines of code can be evaluated in days. In field tests, one programmer on one PC used Millennium CrossCheck to validate 600,000 lines of code in eight hours. The tool runs on a variety of PC platforms and provides a simple, easy-to-learn user interface and procedures. Training is completed in four hours or less. Millennium CrossCheck allows the user to input both the renovated and original source code, or just the renovated code for analysis. Unlike most independent verification and validation, which require customers to employ a team of vendor-supplied consultants in support of the tool, Millennium CrossCheck allows organizations to control the process. The product can be used either by in-house staff on-site, without consulting support, or by an outside consulting firm. About
